Barbara Jean Howell
January 8, 1944 - July 23, 2022

Barbara Jean Howell (McCoy) of Brooksville, FL passed away peacefully in her
sleep holding hands with her husband, Jim in the early morning hours of July 23,
2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s/Dementia.
Born January 8, 1944, in Burlington, IA, Barb grew up in Gladstone, IL, where she
graduated high school from Union High where she met and later married the love
of her life, Jim in 1962 and moved to Monmouth, IL.
Barb devoted her life to her husband Jim of almost 60 years, her children and
family, the “kids” of the neighborhood, and to her friends. She was self-less, had
the biggest heart of gold, would help anyone who needed it and she deeply touched
everyone she came to know and love. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, arts &
crafts, antiques, music, and dancing.
Barb is survived by her husband, James (Jim), three sons, Scott (Marilyn), Mike
(Kim), B.J., and her daughter, Becky (Troy). She is also survived by two
grandsons, A.J. (Shreeja) and Braiden, three granddaughters, Jennifer, Jessica and
Abigail, bonus granddaughter, Michelle (Brent), bonus great-grandsons, Robert
and Garrett along with her many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lois and Chester McCoy and her five
siblings, Jeanette (Larry), Betty (Pete), Bonnie, Shirley and Gary (Marge).
There will be a small gathering to celebrate her life on Saturday August 6 th from 2-
4 pm at her home in Brooksville.
There will also be a Celebration of Life held at the VFW in Monmouth, IL on
Sunday, September 11 th from 2-6pm.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the
Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
