Miller, Don Carles, Sr, 87 years young, of Zephyrhills, FL, previously of Linden, MI, joined his wife of 66 years, Maxine, in heaven on July 27, 2023. Don was born in Flint, MI to Azola and Dona Groleau, and adopted by William Miller when Azola married him after Dona’s untimely death. He graduated from Flint Central High School in 1954. He moved to Argentine after graduating and continued his love affair with Maxine after he met her at the Argentine Nazarene Church in 1953. They were married on March 3, 1956.
Don worked at the Linden Lumberyard and various gas stations, delivered coal and unloaded railroad cars. He started at the Carman-Ainsworth school district in 1966 where he worked his way up to Master electrician, retiring in 1988. Don and Maxine had several rental homes in various cities in Michigan. He taught his children how to fix just about anything. While they attended the Argentine Church of the Nazarene, Don was Sunday School Superintendent, served on the Church Board and also drove the Sunday School bus to pick up the children in the area
that wanted to attend Sunday School. Many of those children (now adults) speak fondly of him to this day. When they moved to the Swartz Creek Church of the Nazarene, Don became an usher and served proudly on the Church Board.
Don loved his wife with all his heart and then his children and grandchildren. He loved his barn and outbuildings that had all his things to putter with. And he was a world class putterer. Anytime someone needed something that they couldn’t find in a store, a phone call or visit was made to him. He usually had exactly what they were looking for. Don could fix anything that was given to him. That was his passion, fixing things.
In 2001, Don and Maxine found a place in Zephyrhills, FL that made them want to become snowbirds. They enjoyed Florida so much, they decided to make it permanent in 2014. That is when they became members of the Zephyrhills First Church of the Nazarene.
