Erland “E.J.”, “Chief” James Withey
June 21, 1939 - November 19, 2021

Erland “E.J.”, Chief James Withey, 82 of Zephyrhills, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021. He was born in New Vineyard, Maine and moved to Florida in 1988 from Maine. He was a retired US Navy Veteran Chief Sonar Tech after 20 plus years of service and also retired from the US Postal Service. “Chief” was Pentecostal in faith and loved people as reflected in the number of organizations he belonged to. He was a Gold Member of the Sheriff’s Association, a Life Member of the VFW, American Legion Post 0148, a Life Member of AmVets Post FL-550, the Moose Lodge 2276 and a former Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge 2731. He also enjoyed fishing and going to the Florida Keys.

E.J. is survived by his loving wife of over 62 years, Frances; son, Roger Withey; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Joseph Perron and Cindy and Brian Wescott and his sister, Charlotte Kent. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Adam, Josh, Krista and Nate and also 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to mention. He will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery with military honors to be rendered on Friday, December 10 at 12:30 pm.
