We are sad to announce the passing of James William Gualtieri of Lutz, FL. James passed away on May 12, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones after a long battle with cancer. James was born on January 28, 1935 to Peter Paul and Julia Gualtieri in Cambridge, MA. At age 18, he joined the U.S. Army, and served multiple tours in the Vietnam War, first as a Chief Medical Specialist and then as a Fixed Wing Aviation Officer. While stationed at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, GA, he met his wife, Pamela. After retiring from the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) as a Major, they moved to Massachusetts where he went on to run successful business ventures with A.L. Williams, Primerica Financial Services, and Capital Choice Financial Services. Upon retiring from Capital Choice, James and Pamela moved to Florida where they became communicants at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, and James served as a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.
James was an incredible individual with a quick, witty sense of humor who loved abundantly. God and family were most important to him. His passions included golf, photography, traveling, watching movies, cooking foods from different cultures (especially Italian!), and spending time laughing and eating with his loved ones while asking, “Who loves ya, Baby?!” To which, they’d always (correctly) respond, “You do!” He would often answer back with, “You better believe it!. James was a loving husband,father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was also a father
and grandfather-figure to so many and touched uncountable lives. He was kind-hearted and treated everyone he met with the same respect that he demanded. He judged people by the content of their character, and lived by the motto, “Attitude is Everything.” He instilled these values in his children and urged them to follow their dreams, not worry what other people think, and always reminded them how proud he was of them.
James was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Paula. He is survived by his wife, Pamela; his children, Julia and her husband Brooke, Linda, Peter and his wife Mary, Michael and his fiancé Traci, Lisa and her husband Derrick, and Andrea and her husband Phillip; his sisters Jean, Terri and her husband Dunk; and his grandchildren, Kiara, Derrick, Eyra, Felix, Juniper, Zaylen, and Aven. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on Wednesday, May 17th at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Land O’ Lakes, FL. A wake will begin at 9:30am followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30am. He will be buried at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL aon Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 11:30 with the full military honors he deserves.
James adored children, loved Saint Jude, and succumbed to his cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/) in his honor.
