Joan Delores Johnson Obituary Born: January 24, 1944 Death: April 19, 2023
Joan Delores Johnson died on April 19, 2023, at the Lakewood Ranch Hospice House after battling cancer. Joan was born in Roane County, Harriman, TN on January 24, 1944, and is the oldest of two children. Her parents were the late Juanita May Johnson and John N. Johnson, Jr.
Joan graduated from Volunteer State Community College with an A.S. degree and later received her B.A. degree from Trevecca Nazarene College, Nashville, TN and went on to earn an M.A. in Communications from Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, KY. She also trained as a Medical Technologist and worked at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Endocrinology for a number of years. Later, she moved to Longboat Key, FL, and has been a resident for 31 years. During this time, she worked for Premier Anesthesia at Manatee Hospital, Bradenton, Florida until her retirement.
Joan spent her life fighting for social justice and the environment and gave so much of her time to such causes as World Wildlife, Doctors Without Borders, Tibetan Projects, Galapagos Projects, and many others. She also spent a lot of her time fighting for Civil Rights during her career. In her lifetime, Joan touched the hearts of many with her care and compassion. She was an avid lover of poetry, music, and literature as well and played the piano beautifully.
Joan is survived by her sister, Teena Johnson, Cottontown, TN, and her lifetime mate, Dr. Larry Gay Reagan of Longboat Key, FL. No services will be conducted. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Lakewood Ranch Hospice House or one of the causes listed above.
