Leo R. Smith, Jr of New Port Richey, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on July 10, 2021. Leo was born on June 19, 1926, in Mishawaka, Indiana to Leo R. Smith and Mary (Zehner) Smith. Leo, formerly of New Buffalo, Michigan, where he was the custodian at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, was a WWII Army Veteran. The family moved to New Port Richey in 1973. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where he also worked as custodian until he retired. Leo loved his family, loved to travel, enjoyed camping throughout the United States, and boating in the Gulf of Mexico.
Leo was a loving husband to his late wife, Alberta Lee (Wilcox) Smith and a good father to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, David Leo Smith.
Survivors include his five children: Mark Smith, (Barbara) Union Pier, MI; Paul Smith, Port Richey, FL; Brian Smith, (Debra) New Port Richey, FL; Jane Guth, (John) Demorest, GA; and Brenda Campolo, (Edgar) Holiday, FL; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; brother Marvin, New Port Richey, FL; sisters Juanita Caveny, King’s Mountain, NC; and Patricia Lehne, New Port Richey, FL.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 14, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at the Gulf Harbors Civic Association, 4610 Floramar Terrace, New Port Richey, FL.
