Margaret Martin Eglinton
June 8, 1928 - June 6, 2023

Margaret Martin Eglinton, aged 94, passed away on June 6, 2023 at Renaissance Memory Care in Tampa, Florida where she had lived for the last seven months. A longtime resident of the Meadville and Conneaut Lake PA area, she was born on June 8, 1928, in Rochester NY to Stanley and Florence (Henty) Martin. She lived in Webster NY, attended school there and graduated from Oberlin College in 1950. In 1951 she married Douglas Eglinton; they were married for 25 years. Margaret is survived by four children: Dick (Karen), Dana (Karen Bennett), Bruce Eglinton-Woods (Nancy Eglinton-Woods), and Jean (Steven Snyder). Her grandchildren: Micah Eglinton-Woods (Bobby Sheehan), Ian (Jess), Erin Barton (Dave), Bennett (Jess), Sam Snyder(Genevieve Schultz) and David Snyder – and one great grandson: Wrenn Sheehan. Her niece: Lisa Fields (John), and two nephews: Andy and Bill Martin (Cathy Corison). She attended Christ Evangelical Free Church in Saegertown.

After living in New England and raising her children, Margaret attended Western New England Law School, graduating in 1979. She was admitted to the bar in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. She served in the Peace Corps in South Korea and Guatemala before returning to the States to work for Legal Services in Portsmouth, Ohio and Meadville. She retired at 83 as a Guardian ad Litem in Meadville. In addition to reading, singing, and playing the piano, Margaret was a swimmer, biker, and hiker. She climbed Longs Peak in Colorado in her younger days and enjoyed hiking the trails in western Crawford County where she particularly enjoyed seeing Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons and Canadian Geese. She liked to travel and visited her ancestors’ farm in Switzerland, as well as France, Germany, Israel, and Costa Rica.

Over the past few years, Margaret has had many devoted care givers to whom we are grateful – from Home Instead in Meadville and Renaissance North Tampa. Margaret did everything she could for her children and was proud to have visited each of her grandchildren within days of their births. Throughout her life she treated everyone around her – particularly children – with love and concern.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Evangelical Free Church, Saegertown PA, Saturday August 19 at 11:00am, visitation 9:00-11:00am.

Mike was the “Woman of Honor” at my wedding! She and I were on Chejudo together. She was a wonderful caring person and many in my family had the privilege of knowing and staying with her including my parents when they biked across country in 1984 and my son who stayed with her in Conneaut Lake a couple of times. She definitely lives on in my life. My heartfelt sympathy to the family. She was a delight and will be missed.
