Roberta (Robbie) Elrod Hull

Roberta Hull (maiden name-Welch) was called home February 17, 2024 at 86 years of age. Born in the Appalachian Mountain region of Harlan, Kentucky to Della Estella (Houston) and Lonnie Arthur Welch on June 10, 1937. She was the 9th child of 13 and is survived by 3 sisters, Clara (Lon-deceased) Sutton, Freida (Don) Harp and Brenda (David) Moore, all of Kentucky. Preceding her in death are sisters Irene, Leona, and Zada; and brothers Herman, Milton, John, Lonnie Jr., Boyd and Julian.
Roberta was a graduate of Harlan High School class of 1955 where she was known for her beautiful brown eyes and hair. She married Walter (Walt) Eugene Elrod (D. 1998) of Hamilton, Ohio in 1956. Their union of 41 years produced 3 children, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 step great granddaughter.
Robbie was a quintessential homemaker and loving mother for a number of years before enrolling in and graduating from the Child Evangelism Institute in San Bernardino California. She later taught Bible classes referred to as Good News Clubs to primary school children during after school hours. Robbie and Walt eventually became licensed foster care parents and took in a couple of young brothers and later several teenage boys. During a few short years in the late 70’s Robbie received the title of “pastor’s wife” when her husband Walt began a small church in Pana, Illinois and later accepted the pastorship at a Church of God in Paxton, Illinois.
As empty nesters, Robbie and Walt enjoyed motorcycle riding together along with square dancing and doing pretty punch embroidery. They also fancied traveling to different Amish communities. Magnolia Hill Retirement and Leisure Mobile Home Community in Plant City, Florida is where they landed in 1996 with plans to eventually retire. Walt, an employee of JB Hunt, died of lung cancer and heart disease shortly after their move.
Robbie married for a second time in 2000 to Henry (Hank) Hull before becoming widowed again n 2005. Robbie and Hank both attended First Baptist Church of Plant City. Robbie was a volunteer at South Florida Baptist Hospital for several years and spent over 15 years as a Walmart employee.
Declining health during the last years of her life had Robbie yearning for her eternal home. In the interim, she enjoyed watching Shirley Temple movies along with I Love Lucy and Little House on the Prairie reruns. Sighting a hummingbird was of particular delight to Robbie. She will be remembered fondly for her sweetness and warmth.
