Steven A. Katz (69) of Spring Hill, Florida and formerly of Dartmouth, Massachusetts completed his life’s journey on November 15, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Steven was the son of the late Joseph Katz and Barbara (Spector) Katz both of New Bedford, MA. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Harold Katz.
His most beloved accomplishments were his four children: Lisa Katz-Turgeon and her husband, Michael of Acushnet, MA, Heather Katz and her fiancé, John Iles of Palm Coast FL, Joseph Katz of Brooksville, FL and Samuel Katz of Wesley Chapel, FL. He leaves his five grandchildren about whom he often boasted: Micaela Katz-Veloso, Mena Katz-Veloso, Olivia Turgeon, Madelyn Katz-Veloso, and Jack Turgeon.
He is survived by his brother, Michael Katz and his wife, Carole of Suffield CT. Steven also leaves behind his loving fiancé, Karen Sheeler with whom he shared wonderful memories with and his loyal companion, Buddy.
Steven graduated from New Bedford High School in 1971 and proceeded to carry on his family’s legacy in the Automobile industry, working for his father’s car dealership, Marvel Motors in New Bedford followed by Morris Motors in Dartmouth, MA. He then continued his career by managing several dealerships in MA, RI, and FL until his retirement in 2003.
Steve was a man of many passions. In his earlier years , he was a vocalist and guitarist in several bands, with his favorite band being the Sunshine Boys. He maintained his love for music throughout his life playing the keyboard and guitar. He then proceeded to follow and enjoy the sounds of several local bands in his area, which brought him so much joy.
He loved cars old and new, often acquiring and then selling several over the course of his retirement. He thoroughly enjoyed rides on his Harley whenever possible.
As a true New Englander, his most favorite things included going to the beach, especially Round Hill in Dartmouth, enjoying a delicious lobster roll and clam chowder, attending the concerts in Padanaram and spending time with old friends. An avid Boston sports fan, he loved to watch his beloved Patriots, Celtics, and Red Sox as often as he could.
Be not mistaken, his greatest joy was his family. Steven loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren more than anything else. He often made surprise visits to Massachusetts, planned weekend trips in his RV, took day trips on his boat, or drove to the other coast of Florida just to make another memory with all of them.
In accordance with Steven’s wishes, he will be cremated. A private service and celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Steven’s memory to:
