Wayne Bessette
May 8, 1949 - September 29, 2023

Wayne Arthur Bessette, 74, of San Antonio, FL passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2023, in the care of hospice, and surrounded by his loyal and loving family. Wayne was born on May 8, 1949 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1968; during his 24-year military career as a Combat Engineer, he served in the Vietnam war, and various bases in Missouri, Virginia, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Texas, Germany, and the First Persian Gulf war, Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

Wayne married Patricia Collis Bessette, also of New Bedford, in 1971. Wayne and Pat had two daughters who moved around the world with him, as the orders allowed. The girls proudly consider themselves “Army Brats”.
Wayne took great pleasure in sports and spent his last ten years playing golf, bocce ball, pool, corn hole, and bowling to name a few; you name it and Wayne played it! He also loved to dance, especially to “YMCA”!
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Marjorie (Kelley) Bessette, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, and his brother, Paul Bessette of Litchfield, New Hampshire.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Collis Bessette; two daughters and two sons-in law, Michelle Bessette Yoder (Travis), of Brooksville, Florida, and Kathryn Bessette Hudson (Scott), of  Niceville, Florida; two grandchildren, Presley Paige Yoder, of Brooksville, and Dylan Wayne Hudson of Niceville. Wayne also leaves behind two sisters, Doreen Benedetti of North Dartmouth, Massachusetts, and Christine Brown along with her husband Rick, of Fairhaven, Massachusetts; a cousin, Elizabeth O’Brien of New Bedford, Massachusetts; four nieces and three nephews and many great -nieces and nephews. Wayne always enjoyed the company of his brothers-in-law, Dan Collis, and wife Sherri, of Laconia, New Hampshire, and Brian Collis, of Carlsbad, California.

Wayne cherished, and will be greatly missed by, the friends he made here at Tampa Bay Golf and Country
Club; they truly made this community “Wayne’s World”.

There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date; burial will be at the Florida National Cemetery, with
military honors.
